Can't really write a review but can say that when I showed up to get food that they were closed and it was the middle of the day! So definitely do not suggest this place if your really hungry!

By far, my favorite Chinese food in the area. Super friendly staff. They always remember you. Roommates and I won't order from anywhere else

***This is no longer Great China*** Their menu now says Golden City. As someone else pointed out there is a new family that has taken over the business. We were very disappointed with our initial visit and will likely not go back. The new folks there are not as friendly and it seems to me that the food quality has dropped...while the prices went up. The previous owners use to cut their chicken fresh and bread it with each order. When i went to pick up my order there was a big metal bowl full of frozen chicken chunks. The sign outside still says Great China but believe me there is nothing "great" about it. It's very hard to find good, quality Chinese Food. This is a sad day.

A new family has taken over the business. The new place Golden City is not good. Wasted my hard earned money on General Tso Chicken and Sesame Chicken! Egg Drop Soup was ok. I usually toggle between my two favorite Chinese take-out (Great China and China Harbor). Sad to see that Great China is no longer in business..... At least I still have my other favorite Chinese take-out 428-CHOP to satisfy my cravings.

Great China is not owned by the same family. Someone else has bought it. BEWARE: The food is not the same anymore. General Taos Chicken is totally different. Not good. Now just like every other mediocre Chinese take out. Go to Mei Zhen at hilltop.... At least those new owners kept their food consistent.

Slightly better than mediocre / average Chinese food. Ordered egg rolls (great filling, less than crispy outside), hot & sour soup (neither spicy nor sour - just kid of bland), chicken corn soup (tasty - kind of sweet from using cream of corn as their base - and best crispy noodles for soup anywhere), Mandarin Spicy Shrimp (kind of a sweet and sour sauce without being very sweet, very sour, or very spicy - but still pretty good), and sesame chicken (this pushed my rating from 3 stars to 4). Could not find a full menu online and wanted to see if they had any interesting specials - so we drove there and ordered and waited 20 minutes. So - posted pix of their menu - but Yelp downgraded the images to be of any real use.

If your going to have Chinese at the oceanfront this is the best spot. Very good quality and not overly greasy for Chinese. Try the General Tso's chicken and veggie lo mein.

Corner store Chinese and chicken wings--yeah! Want a little east meets west? Some fries with your shrimp lo mein? Some chicken wings with your moo goo gai pan? You got it at Great China. Your typical "hood" Chinese corner store knows what the customers like and they deliver (in the restaurant and to your house). The food isn't one of a kind and it isn't spectacular, but it's decent food and you really can't beat the prices for the pounds of rice and extras they give you. If you need your take out on the cheap, Great China is the local choice. There's not much to say about the ambience and the service is just okay, but none of that really matters when it comes to cheap food and hungry people right? When you can feed a family of ten for ten dollars, you can afford to skimp on the décor.

Best general tso's in the Hampton Roads area hands down. We drive 20 minutes out of our way to get it. The receptionist who takes orders is one of the nicest people you'll meet.

Great china is my new favorite Chinese place! Sweet and sour chicken is amazing as are their egg rolls. Way better then any other place in the area.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
